Pedal Home from Provence
2012
Having enjoyed our first trip so much, we decided to take on a new challenge, riding overseas in France, and starting with an ascent of Mont Ventoux, the famed “Giant of Provence”, that Rob had ridden as a teenager, and that has been responsible for so many famous moments in Tour de France history. It was also the moment when one of our more spontaneous and heartwarming One Mile Closer traditions began - that of waiting on top of the major climbs of the tour and cheering all our finishers in together - a small moment of Tour de France magic for all our cyclists.

This was also the first time our Korean contingent made the long journey to join the One Mile Closer Peloton - armed only with instructions to meet us at a campsite in a far distant country with no words of the local language and limited cycling experience. 2 weeks later, they returned to Korea as friends for life, and many of them now our highly experienced ride leaders.
One Mile Closer was set up in memory Rob Gauntlett and James Atkinson. The boys wished that all young people would be able to have the same opportunities that they had benefited from themselves - OMC raises money to that end.
