Since 2009, we have worked in partnership with the Henry van Straubenzee Memorial Fund in supporting the fantastic work at Nalango Secondary School in Uganda, under inspiration headteacher Paul Kasadha.
The School started in 2007 with classes held under the mango trees and has now grown to a well-performing school with over 800 pupils and a boarding section. It has recently been granted full secondary school status by the Ugandan government.

“This place here, before the coming of Nalango Secondary, had no school. And the children here, and the surrounding areas were moving very long distances to go. Setting up Nalango Secondary School, it was an answer to the calls from different parents, calls from the different children who were moving from the place looking for education. And they said, I can say, they said their answer of Nalango Secondary School is giving them the quality that they expected. So being here, Nalango Secondary is answering the tears of the community, the tears of the children, the cry, the outcry of the people.“

One Mile Closer was set up in memory Rob Gauntlett and James Atkinson. The boys wished that all young people would be able to have the same opportunities that they had benefited from themselves - OMC raises money to that end.
