One Mile Closer was founded by James Hooper, Richard Lebon, Tim Gauntlett and Sean Park in memory of Rob Gauntlett. Rob died in a climbing accident on Mont Blanc on January 9th, 2009 – along with his close friend James Atkinson. Rob achieved more in his 21 years than many of us dream of doing in a lifetime, and he devoted his time to assisting and inspiring others – including many schoolchildren – to challenge themselves, follow their dreams and believe in possibility and opportunity. Inspired by Rob’s adventurous spirit, over 100 cyclists of all ages, abilities and nationalities have challenged themselves over thousands of miles to raise money for Nalango Secondary School in Uganda.
Our One Mile Closer peloton has ridden:
- Busan to Seoul, Korea 2017
- Pedal Home from the Pyrenees, 2016
- Sea to Sky in Korea, 2015
- Prague, Czech Republic to Sussex, UK, 2014
- Mont Ventoux to Sussex, UK, 2012

In 2018 we will return to Europe and for a jaunt from Girona to Turin, via Mont Ventoux and the Col de la Bonette (Europe’s highest through road) – please contact us if you would like to join the team.
