Sea to Sky

2015

After the inspirational efforts that our Korean friends had made to ride in Europe with us, it was time to bring One Mile Closer to Korea. We began by sleeping dreamily amongst the impressive fishtanks of Yeosu Aquarium and enjoyed a few days of sun-drenched cycling along the spectacular coastal roads in the south. For our European riders, it was a great treat to enjoy learning about Korean food and culture, and to visit historic sites such as the temples of Gyeongju.

Even for many of our Korean riders, there was unknown beauty to be found - moments of awe rounding headlands on the coast to find spectacular new vistas, or waking up to the morning mist under the hills. For many, the mountain road over Taebaeksan was the first major climbing experience, and it was a powerful moment when our international group lined up at the top of the climb to cheers all our riders through the summit.

One Mile Closer was set up in memory Rob Gauntlett and James Atkinson. The boys wished that all young people would be able to have the same opportunities that they had benefited from themselves - OMC raises money to that end.
