In a tragic twist of fate, One Mile Closer lost Vaughan Holme and Jack Hutton-Potts to another climbing accident, on the Anglesey sea stacks in 2013. Jack was a close friend to Rob’s younger brother, a highly talented young climber and instructor, and a staunch One Mile Closer supporter. Vaughan was the teacher and close friend who had introduced Rob, James, and countless schoolchildren at Christ’s Hospital to climbing and expeditioning. He had supported them every step of the way and subsequently devoted immeasurable energies to supporting One Mile Closer.
One Mile Closer was set up in memory Rob Gauntlett and James Atkinson. The boys wished that all young people would be able to have the same opportunities that they had benefited from themselves - OMC raises money to that end.
